In the past year I am consolidating my research interests in global health governance through publications in peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes. In terms of future plans, I have secured an internal research grant to pursue the question of 'how global is 'global health'?' and am collaborating with other faculty on another project around regional health governance. I also coorfinated the development of a 'white paper' for the future research strategy of NIHA (NUS Initiative to Improve health in Asia).

In the US, Prof. Nunes is a Visiting Fellow at Yale University (Michelle Bell's Lab), and, in Europe, she is a Researcher on GIESA at Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Her faculty sponsors are: (I) Michelle Bell at YALE, and (ii) Fernando Botija at UCM. In Brazil, she also is a Professor for Graduate Studies at the Federal University of Amazon State.

Dr. Nunes conducts interdisciplinary research aimed at a better understanding of the impact of global challenges and governance issues on innovative technology and environment challenges facing Latin America and Iberian regions.

Her current research includes climate change, renewable energy, and air pollution policies. She is also a leading expert in the field of environmental policy in Latin America and Iberian Peninsula, particularly policies and the dynamics in the environmental sector. The future interests touch on natural, cultural, social, political, economic, and other issues related to climate change, environment, and public health in the European and United States.

My research interests are in two broad areas, clinical hematopoietic stem cell and cord blood transplantation and in the laboratory studies related to graft vs. host disease and immune reconstitution. On the clinical side we are currently conducting approximately 50 different clinical protocols ranging from preparatory regimens, supportive care studies and disease specific protocols. Most of these clinical studies are centered around studies of the sources of stem cells and the methods to improve the long term outcome. There are exploratory protocols for novel therapies such as dendritic cell therapy for several malignancies, antiangiogenesis therapy, graft engineering to prevent graft-versus-host disease and antigen specific T cells or non specific NK cells to prevent relapse. Moreover a strong focus of the program is to develop cord-blood transplantation for adult patients with hematologic malignancies. The laboratory studies center on understanding the immunological events that occur with graft-vs-host disease and methods to prevent this disease. The current efforts focus on understanding murine reconstitution following transplantation, use of a peptide polymer to block MHC class II recognition of minor histocompatibility antigens, use of T cell engineering to prevent graft-versus-host disease at the same time preserving a graft-versus-malignancy effect.

The majority of Peter Kussin's effort is devoted to clinical care of patients with advanced lung disease and teaching.
He spends four months a year in Eldoret, Kenya, working at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital as part of The Duke Hubert Yeargan Institute for Global Health and AMPATH--a consortium of North American Medical Schools collaborating with Moi University School of Medicine and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital. He works primarily in the intensive care unit and medicine wards. Kussin is involved in broad range of research efforts in critical care and pulmonary medicine in resource-limited countries..

A convergence scientist familiar with Health(Care), Informatics, Innovation, Technologies and (equally important,) the Business aspects of the ecosystem, Adam serves as a coach & conduit between diverse key opinion leaders & stakeholders, engaging at operational, strategic and governmental levels as well as developing commercial relationships with global firms and local start-ups in the utilization of Data, Technology & Design as enablers for transformation, addressing the challenges of existing and new models of health(care).

Bringing years of experience and expertise in strategy & operational consulting, technology & workflow advisory, design, spearheading implementation & adoption of solutions across Asia Pacific and Middle East, Adam had a successful career in the Tech industry before venturing into Health Informatics in 2002. His unique background also includes working in business, market development and product management with established MNCs and innovative Startups. Adam also ‘earned his stripes’ as an industry pioneer, implementing and managing clinical information solutions during his tenure with Singapore Health Services (SingHealth) and have since worked across the healthcare ecosystem, including the primary care sector, private & public tertiary hospitals, research institutes, government health agencies and NGOs across the globe.
